So, when I logged in to write today’s earlier post, I noticed that a new upgrade to WordPress was available. Apparently 2.8.3 updates some security issues and corrects a few bugs. Thankfully, I thought ahead a little bit and exported the database for the site (just in case) and did some “preemptive” research in case anyone else had ran into snafus as a result of upgrading. See, I am learning.
Luckily I stumbled upon this page that provided a quick tip that allowed the automatic update to actually complete and sure enough, the site updated to 2.8.3. My only issue was that I decided to edit my category structure (who knows why really, I don’t even use them – maybe it was in preparation of wanting to implement them but I’ve decided against it regardless) which resulted in categories showing incorrectly or as children of the wrong parent category. After cleaning the tables for the tags, post categories, and link categories and recreating them, all is once again right with the world.
